Being Down

Looking Up

Rob Walters' Fun Fund Raising Journey

Distance cycled: 749 miles
Beer drunk: 88.5 pints
Shoes shine: 177.5 pairs
Money Raised: £900

The idea for this trip was conceived when Rob was backpacking around the Middle-East. Shoe shiners are still common there, forming a lower echelon in the economy. Though mostly consisting of young boys the shoe shiners do vary considerably in age, competence and sales technique. Watching them Rob wondered what it would be like to ply their trade in relatively affluent England. This trip is the result of those idle thoughts, matured by a period of writing and reflection. Naturally he kept a log of his experiences and this has become the basis of a book see Being Down, Looking Up
